125+ years of shaping Ayurvedic physicians for India and the world
Year Founded
Dayanand Ayurvedic College was established in 1898 during British rule, in Lahore (now Pakistan), by the great educationist Mahatma Hansraj. It holds the distinction of being India's first Ayurvedic College. The college's earliest Principal, Vaid Janardhan Sharma, was the royal physician (Raj Vaid) of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
After India's Independence in 1947, the college was relocated to Amritsar and subsequently, in 1953, to its present location in Jalandhar, when land was allotted by DIV Institution.
Today, the college stands on a sprawling 12-acre campus and is led by Principal Dr. Sanjeev Sud, the 13th Principal in the college's history. Under his leadership, the college has modernized its infrastructure while staying true to its Ayurvedic roots.
Leadership
Principal, DAV Ayurvedic College
"Dayanand Ayurvedic College has been the torchbearer of Ayurvedic education for over a century. Our focus remains on providing the highest quality education, combining the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda with modern medical advancements. We are committed to training doctors who will serve with dedication, both in India and across the world."
Under my stewardship, the college has expanded its hospital bed capacity to 100, established a Sanskrit Language Lab with high-tech smart TVs, embraced digital technology for broader outreach via e-magazine and YouTube, and strengthened ties with international medical institutions. Our alumni include Members of Parliament, state Health Ministers, and renowned practitioners worldwide.
